What is the best way to get rid of ferns that are taking over my perennial garden?

I hit mine with some vinegar because they were not only taking over the garden but moving on out into the lawn. I killed off the ones I didn't want by spraying the vinegar right on the furry little root and made a barrier with it to contain it to the area where I wanted it. The ones in the grass I just had to pull out because I didn't want the vinegar to kill it. So far, it is working.

Round up ground clear works the best for killing off unwanted plants and weeds.
Reply:Ferns are more susceptible to nitrogen fertilizer than other plants. Try applying diluted (1:50) ammonia to the rhizomes.
Reply:Pluck them gently from the soil and then air mail them to me! I love ferns!
Reply:try 'painting' them with round-up. that way you won't over-spray and kill other plants that you do want.

trim them down to a couple of inches and use a disposable container (yogurt cup, etc) to hold the round-up and literally paint them.

hope this helps.
Reply:Dig them out.

No need for poisons.
Reply:i don't know
