How can i cultivate wild ferns. When i lift them and bring them home, whatever i do they die.?

You can actually buy wild ferns from a lot of garden centres, it's illegal to dig them up and they don't like it anyway. A better and legal way to grow them is to wait until autumn and look under the fronds until you find dark brown spots or lines. These contain thousands of spores you can grow. Take the whole leaf, put in an envelope and leave in a dry warm place so they dry out (not too hot). You will see fine brown dust which you can blow onto a tray of peat. Cover with a plastic bag and keep moist. By next year you should see tiny ferns growing. Grow them on in pots of peat and be patient you'll have your wild ferns, probably too many.

make sure it is legal in your state first. here in michigan it's a $500.00 fine even if it's on your own property. i found out the hard way. but if not dig them up with plenty of dirt and use a bucket. they will die but they will come back next year.
