My lfs is selling some really long pieces of java fern. From what I understand, they only grow in one direction along the rhizome....
The pieces for sale are too big for my tank - can I cut them in half to put in two tanks? Or rather, will both pieces grow?

Java fern is very hardy and yes you can cut them into two pieces. Just take a sharp knife or razor blade and cut the rhisome in between the leafs. Both pieces will continue to grow.
