I have received an answer regarding 'Who were Peter Ferns parents. Unfortunately the brief details given are wide of the mark.
Peter Ferns was about 85 years old when he died on 2nd October, 1884 in Renfrew. His wife, Agnes Jackson, had died at Busby in Renfrew back in October, 1872. He stayed with his son, John Jackson Ferns, and his family in Inverkip for a while, but John died on the 15th May, 1895.
From the evidence available, Peter Ferns' parents, came from around the Glasgow area. Indeed, his son was actually born in Glasgow, in Windsor Terrace.
Can anyone supply the missing part of my research by telling me the names of Peter Ferns parents and hopefully, when they were born and where?
What were the names of Peter Ferns' parents?
I tried to do a census search using alternate first names as possibilities but the census records don't seem to go back far enough at Ancestry.com. The ones available were few for 1841 and 1851 but the birth dates wouldn't make Peter's parents old enough since the earliest date of birth I found was 1791.
The census record I did find already has the information you probably have.

Reply:The latest answer once again does not answer the question. I am well aware that the Censuses will not give the answer. Peter Ferns died on 2nd October, 1884 at Mossland Cottage, Renfrew. He was born around 1799 in Glasgow, Lanarks. Again, I throw open the question, "Who were his parents?" Report It
