I am looking for someone that actually has the book in front of them ... I would like someone to tell me what happens during chapter 7 where Gpa is explaining to Billy about the raccoon traps (the shiny object , paw being to big , etc) sorry its been 20 years since I read the book and looking for some info on it

it's been a while for me too, but i can tell you that the trap you're talking about is where you (the trapper) find a log and carve a hole that is just barely the size of a (we'll say quarter, i think that's what they say) quarter and then you put a shiny quarter-sized piece of metal into it so it's just barely in there. when the racoon comes and sees it, because they are scavengers and love shiny things so much, they reach in to get it, but when their fist closes on the quarter, the fist it makes is too big to get it out of the hole. they somehow dont realize that if they were to just let go of their treasure, they could escape without any harm. however, for whatever reason. they dont let go of it even in the face of danger.

i dont remember how they kill the coon from there. but that's it for almost certain.
