House finch sitting on eggs in a hanging plant that gets rained on?

Sits in one of my ferns out in the rain even when its pouring and the wind whips the fern around everywhere. It's rained on because it sits at the edge of the balcony. Should I move the hanging plant like 1-2 feet more inward under the balcony or can birds %26amp; their eggs/chicks survive being rained on?

Yes, you can move the nest a short distance if you want to. 1-2 feet is not going to keep her from finding it. Birds nests do get rained on, and the females usually do sit on them to protect the eggs or chicks during bad weather. Most survive the storm...but others do not. I have seen many babies drown in the nest in heavy rain even with the mother sitting on them. It is your choice..the birds will hopefully survive either way.
Reply:Do not move it. If she didn't like the location, she wouldn't have nested there. They will be fine. Mom will keep the eggs/chicks covered and warm.
Reply:Whatever you do, leave the nest alone. The mother will not come back if it has been moved. you will endanger the nestlings. if the mother chose the spot then it is fine.
Reply:it will be okay to move the plant inward but don't touch the nest or eggs
