They seem to be at the point where it changes generations, so in alternation of generations, which generation do spores belong to?
Are spores produced in the gametophyte generation or the sporophyte generation in ferns and mosses?
I am happy that you are familiar with the expression
" Alternation of generations "

In the above diagram you would notice that SPORES are produced after MEIOSIS in the sporangium .
So they are HAPLOID and after germination produce the moss gametophyte . SO SPORES ARE PRODUCED BY THE SPOROPHYTIC GENERATION AND THEY ANNOUNCE THE BEGINNING OF THE GAMETOPHYTIC GENERATION.
Pinpoint answer to your question== SPORES BELONG TO THE GAMETOPHYTE GENERATION AS THEY ARE HAPLOID ( n ).

The fern life cycle tells the same story.
I hope that you got your answer !
Reply:The sporophyte generation generates spores. So the gametophyte generation generates gametes.
