How often do indoor houseplants need to be watered?

I have small ivy and fern potted plants in my kitchen...how often do I need to water them?

How often do indoor houseplants need to be watered?
It's scary how much water everyone thinks plants need. Really, they need to be watered when the surface is slightly dry to the touch. Ivy can go longer without water, but if they are in really small pots the soil can dry out in a day. I always say to err on the dry side, but don't forget to water at all. You have to observe the plant for a short time to see how fast the soil dries and how long a certain amount of water keeps the soil moist. If you always water so the soil is thoroughly moistened and allow the soil to dry out slightly the vast majority of tropical plants will thrive.

Reply:honestly, it depends on the plant.

But, most plant should be watered about 1/3 cups of water every 2 days

how much water you give a plant also may vary from how big the pot is, and how much soil you

have in it.
Reply:During the winter I water my plants less I often stick a finger in the dirt to see how wet the dirt feels and then I water accordingly, the ivy plant probably needs to be water when the dirt is a little moist and the fern too but the fern needs to be misted a few times during the weeks maybe put it in the bathroom when you are showering or get a spray bottle to mist it,during the summer you need to water a lot more.
Reply:Once a day is sufficient.
Reply:Good question... I guess it depends on the plant, more than anything else, as well as where you put them, if it's sunny, dry, humid, etc.... Better look up the care of the different plants you have for more info.....
Reply:I think you should look up the type of plants you have and read a bit about their care.
Reply:Every morning once a day./
