How do you get rid of black algae in my aquarium its on my plants what do i do to get rid of it??????
Black brush algae is a tough one to get rid of. Four suggestions:

1) Remove as many of the infected plant leaves as possible - you can;t really remove the algae without damaging the leaves anyway.

2) Get a Siamese (not Chinese) algae eater. They're the only things that will eat the stuff.

3) It needs nurtient to grow, so do a few good water changes and vacuum the gravel well so all the waste is removed. Since some water companies use phosphate (a plant fertilize) in the pipes to control corrosion, use a phosphate absorbing pad in your filter.

4) Least preferable, but brush algae doesn't seem to like higher pH levels. Add some shell material to your filter or substrate to raise you pH a little (or increase CO2 injection system for the plants if you use one). Do any pH changes slowly because this can affect your plants and fish, as well as your algae.

Light doesn't seem to have as much affect on this as on green algae (brush algaes are a form or red algae).

See the article below about red algae control:
Reply:it should wash off off fairly easily. if you have any maracyn around you can put the plants in a bucket and use maracyn. in the water with them.
Reply:sucker fish
Reply:hire a aquatic helper yo come clean once a month...

1. Try clean off with water and scrub it off

2. get a Siamese algae eater 5 to 8 or more in a group

3. but if have a really big tank 29+ gallon the common pleco is the way only needs one 2 is optional
Reply:We've had the same problem and the only way we got rid of it was to break down the aquarium, scrape off the algae, refill and restart the tank along with an algae tablet we purchased from WalMart that will help keep the algae away. Sorry I didn't have an easier solution to the problem. We tried everything before taking such drastic measures.
