I encourage you to read this book...I read it for school too, and then again for pleasure because I loved it so much. Just learn to appreciate the beautiful imagery of the Ozark mountains and fall in love with the wonderful characters. I don't know what type of literature you are into, but in my opinion the story gets better and better (and also sadder! but I won't give anything away). Just stick with it, I know you can! Happy reading!

i read this book and luvd it. its not a book everyone would like but if u like books/movies/plays that are tear jerkers, u would like it too. The begining is a bit boring but i thought it got better. i think u should read for a few more chapters and if its still not interesting then i would give up on it. good luck!!!
Reply:It's a great book. I am an adult and it still makes me emotional when I read it. It is a really good book, don't stop reading it. It has alot to do with loyalty, and dealing with loss and change.
Reply:You may as well if you've gotten that far, I don't think you have much farther to go. The ending is good, although sad. I remember crying a lot while I was reading it.
Reply:umm, idk, i started it and got bored, so i never finished it lol, i think it was good though, from what i heard
Reply:the dogs end up dying.

sad ending but the title ties into it....read it.
Reply:Very good and sad, love it.
Reply:I read it in school. It is a sad book. As an animal lover it was hard for me. As an Oklahoman, it was interesting to read a book taking place in my home state.
Reply:I read it when I was in school and I loved it although the ending is very sad. Also, there was a movie made from it in early 70's that was relatively faithful to the book.
Reply:I loved it myself. I say keep reading it. Most books are boring at the beginning but they get better.
Reply:yes it gets better it's a good book, great ending
Reply:It's a great book, I cry everytime I read it...it picks up, you should definately try to finish it.
Reply:Keep it up, it is worth it! You have a few surprises in store for you if you do...
Reply:It's a good book. I've seen both movies. Yes there were two movies. The last one made had the girl from Facts of Life in it. (Blair) She played the sister of the boy with the dogs. I think the older movie was better. you should really read it.
