Is it ok to pot ferns outdoors in shade?
Yes, as long as you kep the soil moist.

Ferns as you probably know, like to have moist feet and little if any direct sunlight.

Also, high heat could cause a little withering to the edges of the leaves.
Reply:I live in Oklahoma and have ferns in Pots and in the Ground both. They are all doing real well. they are in the shady part of my yard.
Reply:Sure it's okay! You can pot anything. Just make sure you have good soil and drainage. I like the Queen Ferns in my pots the best, even though they are more tolerant. Living in the south, with as hot as it gets here, they just do well for me in the sun. The painted Japenese ferns are also quite lovely and do better in the shade.

Enjoy!
