The ferns in my garden have black spores on the back of the leaves?

If I shake these spores off into a suitable compost, would these spores germinate and would I eventually have fern plants. I'm asking as over the years my ferns have progated by producing fonds, which can be taken from the main stem of the plant and grown on by this method.

Ferns reproduce from these "spores". They will reproduce naturally if you just leave them alone. If you touch them, the oil from your fingers will prevent them from germinating. If you are very careful, you will be able to collect them in small soil pots and grow them from the spores.
Reply:yes u can propogate these type of ferns by plantng he spors in the compost.it would have been better if u tell which r u talkig about
Reply:That be the BLACK SPORE, Me Dear. Best lie low for a full moon or two.
Reply:Ohhh, pirate-speak. *sigh* I'll vote for answer number 2 because plants tend to die around me, even if I follow directions carefully. You don't want advice from me on plants, believe me.
