Has anyone read "Where The Red Fern Grows?"?

I found the ending depressing, it had me wanting to read more though, and there were many parts of the book where i had doubt if Little Anne and Old Dan would stay alive. I am still upset about how it ended. What are your thoughts?

Has anyone read "Where The Red Fern Grows?"?
It's been probably close to twenty years since I last read that book, and I still remember the ending down to the last detail because it was just so brutally sad. It seemed like it was sort of piling the punishment just to be tragic. Just the protagonist accidentally killing someone *or* losing his dogs would have been more than enough on its own.



But then, I suppose that's the sign of a really good book, if it makes that lasting an impression.
Reply:We had to read that in the 4th grade and I cried so hard. It was bad.
Reply:Oh my gosh I cried like a baby at the end of that.
