How to transplant foxtail fern?

I'll assume it's a potted asparagus densiflorus "meyeri". Just move it too a larger pot in spring. Unless you want to divide it, leave the root ball completely intact. They do produce a very large root system.

If you're in a temperate zone, I'd wait until spring.

By the way, it's not a true fern, it's really a member of the lily family, as is all asparagus.

I don't do much repotting in the fall myself. If it's a sizeable plant, you're probably going to have to saw through the rootball with a small saw or heavy knife, and really disrupt the root system. If it were me, I'd wait.

Good luck! Report It
