Fern Problem?

I've got a fern in my bedroom and on the new leaves growing there is some insects, i keep removing them but still they come back, I've washed it but still, I've you got any idea how to get rid of them?

Thanks

PS: The plant never goes outside so I dont know how the insects appeared

Fern Problem?
Sounds like flea bettles.
Reply:I wonder, could they be black-fly? Although you have removed them, its possibly their young that the plant is being re-infested with again. I would therefore try getting rid of them by applying an insecticide and then in one/two weeks time apply another dose of insecticide. The numbers should be reduced and then in another one/two weeks apply another dose again.

And try not to overwhelm the plant by over saturating it. Sometimes I get a little too enthusiastic!

A lot of these insecticides require several attempts to clear these problems as the young in the eggs can be impenetrable. In addition, if you can, do try to use a more environmentally friendly insecticide. We're getting fewer and fewer choices in the shops in the UK.
Reply:it would help to know what the insects look like. Whiteflies are tiny white flies that swarm when you touch the plant. Scale looks like tiny brown scales on the backs of the leaves (which, incidentally, is what fern spores look like, and they are supposed to be there, that is the seed of the fern, but you can tell the difference because the spores are in nice regular rows. Aphids are tiny probably green bugs. Mealy bug looks like bits of cotton fluff. Not knowing what the bugs are, it isn't easy to suggest a cure, but one thing you don't want to do is to spray them with insecticide because ferns can't tolerate that. I would , just in case they are soil gnats or hiding in the soil, take the plant out of the soil, wash it off thoroughly with cool water, and then put some Safer insecticidal soap or a dishwashing detergent like Ivory liquid in a bucket, and swish the plant in it. Then I would rinse it off and repot it in new soil. If that doesn't cure the problem, I would say toss it and get a new one, lol!
