My tree fern leaves have gone brown over the winter, should i cut them back or leave them?

Take them off, they are going to fall off sooner or later and they look unsightly anyway.

Yes, you should cut brown leaves and start fertilising weekly with a 20 20 20 solution to promote new leaves. be sure that it have a good organic loose soil. Keep it out of air drafts and place it in a place out of direct sunlight but were it has a good bright filtered light. Soon you should start looking good results.
Reply:If this is outside and a rather smallish tree with the fern fans sticking out in a big kind of ball of ferns.. You are supposed to cut them way back every fall after the first frost.
Reply:Leave them as they protect the new growth and the stem from late frosts.

You have to remember that they are a Newzeland plant and not native to the uk
Reply:cut them. new growth will follow.
Reply:i always put a garden glove on and rub them down and up and all the crisp brown will fall away leaving the plant to breath and turn green again
Reply:cut them down to an inch or two then cover with a lil mulch
