Repotting staghorn fern-- how?

I have a staghorn fern that needs to be put on a piece of oak. It was growing in a pot and has actually grown partways around the pot. I am wondering if I should try and remove the pot before I put it on the wood or leave it as not to disturb the growing point. This is not a fegular fern.

Has anyone had any experience with this? It's about 12" allover size.

i have several....believe it or not they transplant very well

i divided one hauge one into 7 different plants and tried all sorts of containers...the best one and now the biggest i put in a hole in a tree round that was cut for fire wood i just burrowed out the center and set him in it ..tossed a little dirt and leaves and off he took,,,i put another in a wire basket with swamp cooler padding used the year before...he is growing nicely...another i stuck in potting soil in a pot...not near the growth as the others but growing...another i wraped with a mesh and put dead leaves and a little soil and then stuck it to a piece of driftwood...still growing

they seem to take off better when set in bright but not direct light and they like to be cool watch for slugs and dont cut off dead antlers...oh and they dont like to be wet just water once in a while..oh cut the pot away and take a knife and cut the plant to make more and vitiman b 1 for transplant always

Reply:if you decide to remove the pot, remember... the less handling you do with the roots, the better... so rather than fiddle with trying to'remove' the roots from the pot, just bust the pot up and leave whatever roots are attached to parts of the pot alone.... just disguise them in the new setup with a little moss or leaf mold..... I really like the driftwood /branch and chicken wire method best.... it's closest to how they'd live naturally.........ours at the nursery was nearly eight ft across and six long.......we just kept hanging new logs beside the heavy parts......
