What is the poem "Fern Hill" about?

It's by Dylan Thomas and I just can't figure it out.

What is the poem "Fern Hill" about?
you can find a short but interesting discussion on the poem in the context of Dylan Thomas's life and works on the BBC website @

Reply:Its about an old man looking back on his childhood and lamenting his lost youth. There is a quote, don't know where it's from, "Youth is wasted on the young." The idea is that young people don't appreciate the gift of being young and so don't make the most of it. The poet is mourning the fact that he had the chance to spend all those lovely days in the country and never appreciated them as he should have.
