What were the contirbuting factors to the decline of the great ferns covering earth millions of years ago.?

Millions of years ago this planets plant life was dominaed by Ferns and fern like trees. This dominance continued for a long time, but eventually the ferns began to die off in favor of different plant life.

Climate change is clearly one reason but what other factors caused the fern to be less competitive than new plant life and trees and lose its place in dominance?

What were the contirbuting factors to the decline of the great ferns covering earth millions of years ago.?
probably more aggressive species of plants, such as shrubs, bushes and other hard wood plants like trees. They are adaptive to changes in temperature and are not as easily damaged by storms.

it is also quite possible that grazing animals found the soft fern delectable and easy to digest and sought them out.

or you could always blame illegal fern loggers. :)
Reply:the sun. as other plants grew to be big, the ferns source of food was blocked out. as a result the fern population grew smaller as other plants dominated. hope this helps
