Red Fern Type Growth in Bathroom.?

Behind the toilet there is a small crack between base board and wall. A red colored fern type plant is growing there.

What the heck is this and how do I get rid of it. This has happened before to a neighbor in their bathtub, but they never figured out what it was and ripped out the entire bathroom to get rid of it. I really do not want to go that far.

I have poured bleach on it turning a tan/white color. It is quite fiberous and I am unable to break it apart. It also appears to be wrapped around the hose that leads to the toilet tank.

Thank you in advance for any ideas on this problem.

Red Fern Type Growth in Bathroom.?
sounds like prelude to invasion of the body snachers, check under bathroom for wet spot, if possible. you may need to lower humidity in house if its a type of mold growth. mold needs 70% humidity to grow and a bathroom has it, you may need to install an exhaust fan in there. as for killing growth, try brush-be -gone or round-up herbicide.mold is lethel if enough of it is around. if you have crawl space under house, go look and see.if not sure what to look for, call exterminater ( bug killer) or plumber
Reply:If possible dry out the area with a fan and treat with bleach . 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Sounds like some baseboard and possible sheet rock removal is in order.

Good Luck!
