How does Billy Colman mature? He seems like such a cry-baby most of the time and doesn't seem to mature much. But when he is hunting and loses Old Dan and Little Ann, how does he mature then?

Billy grows up when he first gets the dogs.

Its not possible to really see it in the beginning, but as he trains the dogs, plays with them, and spends all his time with them, he basically grows up every day.

When he loses Old Dan and Little Ann, he realizes that he has to do everything in his power to get them back.





Honestly, have you ever met a KID that wanted to do that? Most kids are selfish because their kids. They wanna play and have fun. The meaning of becoming more mature is to find responsibility and keep it. Thats what makes an Adult.

He may only be a kid, but mentally, he's growing up faster every day.
Reply:I think he matures because he saved up all his money for such a long time and the resopnisibilty of taking care of animals that when he lost them he relized that it was a part of life and there was nohing that he could do about it but go foward and learn from it. So i think thats why he matured. By the way I loved that book and the movie. Its been so long since I read it or heard about the book. I miss the 4th grade.

Reply:.. The book is actually part fiction, part truth. The author, Wilson Rawls, is relating his experiences growing up in poverty with the dogs %26amp; his family. In truth, he only had one dog, I believe it was Little Ann. %26amp; she DID save his life, just like the book says. Wilson lived in Idaho Falls, ID. for years. I have met him. purty sure he's dead now though.
