How to get rid of brown algae from plants?

On some of my new java fern and crypts.

Rather not get a pleco or algea eater...would a snail do the trick - what kind?

How to get rid of brown algae from plants?
Well, that's absolutely normal

once your nitrogen cycle is completed and everything is in synch with your chemicals, your algae will disappear

Also keep in mind that you leave your light on only for 10-12 hours during the day and turn them off for 12-14 hours at night, a timer is a huge plus with that

My guess is that you have your light on too much

I would leave it in your case only on for 10 hours a day since you don't have any fish in there

Hope that helps

Good luck

Reply:Maybe you could try a snail mystery snail, or you could take them out and clean them off. Sorry I couldn't be much of help!
Reply:I find Red Ramshorn Snails and/or Malaysian Trumpet Snails do a good job and they don't grow very large (about 1"). They reproduce rapidly though, which is why they are considered pests to many people... which means they're often given away for free by hobbyists.
Reply:The best thing I can recommend is a big apple/mystery snail. I have a huge one in my tank and it's really fun to watch, especially when you can see it's tongue cleaning the glass.

If you get one you shouldn't have problems with baby snails, as apple snails have separate genders. If you happen to get a female she may lay some eggs which you can simply remove if you don't want them, but otherwise you're good to go!

Nerite snails are also good, as they only breed in brackish or saltwater, so you can have as many as you like in a freshwater aquarium without having to worry about babies :)
