How sun tolerant are ostrich ferns?

I want to plant ferns in a location which receives about 50/50 sun and shade. I just don't know wheather ostrich or royal ferns would be better in the long run.

How sun tolerant are ostrich ferns?
I have planted ostrich ferns in pretty much full shade and they do very well. However, I've also seen them in the wild and most often they are in only partial shade, and thriving. Ostrich ferns are among some of the most sun-tolerant ferns. I can remember planting salvia in front of some established ostrich ferns that were in full sun and both flowers and ferns did well. (This was in a formerly shadey spot where the ostrich ferns had been naturalized with hosta. The ferns survived and did very well; the hosta -- once a shadey spot became sunny -- did not do well.) To tell you the truth, I've seen ostrich ferns grow "on the edge" of some very sunny spots. Hope this helps. I have found ostrich ferns to be among the hardiest and easiest ferns to grow.
Reply:FERNS ARE SHADE LOVERS AND DRY OUT IN HOT SUNLIGHT NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WATER THEM...THERES LOTS OF OTHER FINE LEAFED STUFF WHICH WOULD DO BETTER IN SUNLIGHT....
Reply:Ferns are shade lovers, they will easily burn in excessive sunlight, the recommended sunlight is 25 sun/75 shade. You may want to try

some of the following

Carex tenuiculmis

aka 'Cappuccino'

or

Liriope

aka 'Silver Dragon'
Reply:They are shade-loving plants.
