the mom and the sisters worry about billy when he leaves home to find his dogs.

the mother worries about billy when he goes coon hunting and thinks he's got hurt

all of the adventures that happen, happen to the males. grandpa, billy, and the dad go to the competition. the mother stays home, gets pregnant.

the males are the most intersting characters, with the exception of little ann
