Here's what I do. I look on eBay, do a search for "fern" under Home %26amp; Garden - Plants. That will bring up a whole list of ferns and you can scan down that list until you see a picture of one that is like your own. See what they call it. The common name is usually listed, then you can do a Yahoo or Google search for that fern, and find the scientific name.
